Cellulite Treatment

What is cellulite? Cellulite is the “cottage cheese” looking, lumpiness found most often on thighs, stomachs and butts. It is believed that cellulite is caused by poor elasticity in the skin. Cellulite is a collection of fat cells become too large for the skin to hold. The fat pushes against the connective tissue making the skin appear bumpy and dimply. Cellulite is a mixture of water, fat and toxic waste.

Causes of Cellulite

Though it does occur in some men, cellulite is a concern for as many as 90% of women.  Many doctors believe that a high level of estrogen is a major cause of cellulite.  Gender, age, the amount of fat on your body and the thickness of your skin affect cellulite.  But there are many other reasons for people to have cellulite, including poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, aging, smoking, bad circulation, diet, sleeping and birth control pills and genes.  Yes, unfortunately cellulite runs in the family.  So what causes cellulite and what is the best treatment for you?

Cellulite Treatment

There are a variety of different cellulite treatments out there today.  You can try cellulite treatment creams, Velasmooth cellulite treatment,  or cellulite laser treatment.

Changing your diet and getting more exercise, both aerobic and strength, may be the first step in cellulite treatment.  Drinking water can help flush the toxins out of the body, which will help eliminate cellulite.  Stopping smoking will also help decrease cellulite.  Smoking tends to accelerate the aging of skin in people; aging skin makes cellulite look worse.  Smoking also affects the tautness in skin, causing the look of cellulite to increase.

Unfortunately, cellulite does run in the family, so if your mother has cellulite, there is a good chance you will have it.  Therefore, it is very important to stick to a good diet, healthy lifestyle and exercise daily.  If you are already doing this, you may want to try a cellulite treatment cream.  There is no miracle solution out there, but there are creams, such as Procellix, Revitol or Dermology, that people do say work over time.  So patience and consistency is a key ingredient when using cellulite cream.  Search the internet for treatment creams. It will be more of a trial and error process.  Or talk to a dermatologist to see what might work best for you.  Cellulite treatment creams can cost anywhere from $15-100.  So this is a good place to start.

If cellulite treatment creams do not seem to do the job, you may need to look into something stronger, like cellulite laser treatment.  Again, talk to your doctor or dermatologist for their advice or recommendations.  A new, non-surgical, FDA approved cellulite laser treatment is Velasmooth cellulite treatment.  It involves tissue manipulation, electrical optical synergy, infrared energy and bi-polar energy to remove cellulite.

The average cost of one cellulite laser treatment session is $165 and most people need at least 10 sessions, making the total procedure cost anywhere from $2000-4000 and it is not usually covered by insurance.  And unfortunately, the results may not be permanent.

Cellulite is a concern for many women, girls and some men.  It can affect thin or obese, young or old, and any race.  Genetics are a big factor of cellulite, but a good diet, daily exercise and a healthy lifestyle are a good start to fight off cellulite.  For more serious cases, you may need to use cellulite treatment creams or look into cellulite laser treatment.
